Med-Trans Corporation, a Global Medical Response company, and Covenant Health are expanding the Kite Flight air medical program with the addition of a second helicopter, significantly increasing critical care transport capacity and access to specialized care for patients across West Texas and eastern New Mexico.
Based in Lubbock, the second aircraft was added to meet growing demand for high-risk laboring mothers, neonatal, and pediatric transports across the region. The expansion of Kite Flight Two increases aircraft availability, enhances response capability during periods of high demand, and provides greater operational readiness when one aircraft is already committed to a mission or undergoing maintenance.
For many communities across West Texas and eastern New Mexico, air medical transport serves as a vital link to access specialized care quickly-care that may otherwise be hours away by ground ambulance.
The Kite Flight aircraft is equipped to support the specialized needs of mothers and infants during transport, including specialized incubators for neonatal patients. The clinical team also receives specialized training for maternal and neonatal transports, helping ensure patients receive critical care throughout the flight and during transfer to a higher level of care.
"Adding a second Kite Flight aircraft strengthens the system connecting communities across West Texas and eastern New Mexico to the specialized care they need," said Bobby Sanchez, regional director for Global Medical Response. "For patients in rural areas, distance can be a significant barrier to care. This expansion gives the region greater transport capacity and another pathway to advanced care when every moment matters."
The aircraft went into service on October 21, 2026 and is now available to transport patients during time-sensitive emergencies.
