Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, journalist and entrepreneur Kara Swisher, and Vox Media today announced a podcast partnership for the midterms and beyond. It begins with Clinton and Swisher co-hosting a special midterms-focused limited series, "High Stakes," that debuts October 14 and will run as a third episode of Swisher's hit show for New York Magazine, On With Kara Swisher, weekly on Wednesdays. The partnership brings together two bold, fearless and uniquely accomplished women, and will focus on the big themes that voters are most concerned about ahead of the pivotal midterm elections-from the cost of living, to healthcare, to technology-while keeping up with daily developments in the race and analyzing the results afterwards. They will bring in competing points of view from all sides to debate these important issues, trying to define the differences and also find commonalities. Future collaborations between Clinton, Swisher, and Vox Media are to come.
"I don't think the stakes for our country and the world have ever been higher than they are in November," said Clinton. "People are hungry for real conversation about what's happening in our democracy and what it will mean for their families, and I can't think of a better partner for that than Kara. There will be some discussion, some debate, and hopefully a lot of laughter."
In "High Stakes" the audience will get Clinton unfiltered, with Swisher drawing out the wickedly funny and sharp woman Americans may not have gotten to see before. In this urgent political moment, Clinton brings singular expertise from her five decades in public service to analyze an election where democracy itself seems to be on the line. Clinton previously served as a guest host of Pivot, Swisher's podcast with Scott Galloway, during this year's "Scott-free August."
"Think of this series as Pivot, but with an actual expert as my co-host," joked Swisher. She added, "She's a global icon, she doesn't hold back, and she's going to bring the audience an invaluable perspective."
"I'm immensely proud to bring Secretary Clinton-a hero to millions who has had a profound impact making the world a better place-to Vox Media as she embarks on this next chapter of her media career," said Jim Bankoff, Vox Media co-founder and CEO. "She and Kara are forces of nature, and have an undeniable chemistry as hosts. I can't wait to see where we take this partnership next."
Hillary Rodham Clinton spent her career in public service as an advocate, attorney, First Lady, U.S. Senator, U.S. Secretary of State, and presidential candidate. As First Lady of the United States, she traveled to more than 80 countries, standing up for human rights, democracy, and civil society. As Senator, the first woman elected to statewide office in New York, she worked across party lines to expand economic opportunity and access to quality, affordable health care. In her four years serving as President Barack Obama's Secretary of State, she played a central role strengthening America's global leadership.
In 2016, Clinton was the first woman nominated for president by a major U.S. political party. She won the national popular vote, earning the support of nearly 66 million Americans. Since leaving civil service and electoral politics, she has remained an active force for progress and human rights. She is the author of eleven best-selling books, including her groundbreaking book on children, It Takes A Village (1996), and the memoirs Living History (2003), Hard Choices (2014), and What Happened (2017).
Kara Swisher is a podcasting pioneer, co-host of Pivot and host of On with Kara Swisher, which since 2022 has featured her no-holds-barred interviews with power players across business, tech, media, politics, and beyond. She was the cofounder and editor-at-large of the technology website Recode and co-executive producer of the Code conference. Considered the top reporter in the tech game, Swisher has been reporting on the industry since the early 1990s and expanded her purview across business, politics, and culture with her podcasts. She's the author of the New York Times-bestselling memoir Burn Book: A Tech Love Story (2024). She has been named to The Hollywood Reporter's list of "Podcast Power Players" and the Out 100, and received a Webby Lifetime Achievement Award and "Pioneer Icon" from the iHeart Podcast Awards.
