AKRON, OHIO - Democratic Women's Caucus Vice Chair U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) hosted "Tea Time with Sykes" on Thursday, a private conversation with women from Ohio's 13th Congressional District as part of the DWC's "Conversations Across America" series for Women's History Month.
The event gave attendees, including members of Akron's Black Nurses Association and the Black Social Workers of Summit County, a chance to share their stories, voice concerns, and hear how Rep. Sykes is working to protect women's rights, lower costs, and strengthen communities. A portion of the conversation focused on healthcare access, affordability, and equity.
"Women's voices need to be at the table when decisions are being made," said Rep. Sykes. "I'm grateful for the chance to listen, learn, and talk about how we can make healthcare more accessible and support families across our communities."
The conversation also highlighted the power of local engagement, connecting women leaders and professionals across the district to build networks, amplify community voices, and ensure that policies reflect the needs of everyday Ohioans.
