A Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel is a large, ship-shaped unit used in offshore oil and gas production. It extracts, processes, stores, and transfers oil and gas directly at sea, without the need for fixed platforms or onshore infrastructure. These vessels are widely used in deepwater environments for their flexibility and efficiency.
Over 30% of global crude oil production comes from offshore sources, where FPSO vessels play a central role in daily operations.
An FPSO vessel is a floating facility used by the offshore oil and gas industry for the processing and storage of oil and gas. It operates as a mobile, self-contained production unit that can be stationed over a subsea oil field. These vessels are either purpose-built or converted from existing oil tankers (such as Very Large Crude Carriers or VLCCs) and are equipped with topside processing modules that separate oil, gas, and water extracted from subsea wells.
Once processed, the oil is stored onboard the FPSO vessel until it can be offloaded to shuttle tankers or transported via pipeline to shore. Gas may be flared, reinjected, or processed depending on the specific setup of the vessel.
Skid-mounted packages reduce installation time and cost: two major factors in offshore project viability.
At IFS/DXP, we provide skid-mounted, plug-and-play systems designed for the challenging conditions aboard FPSO vessels. Our offerings include:
Each package is engineered using tools like UNISIM for simulation and performance modeling. The equipment is fabricated for durability and performance in harsh offshore settings, supporting production, separation, storage, and safety operations.
Planning a floating production storage and offloading unit or modifying an existing FPSO vessel? IFS/DXP offers modular process systems built for offshore reliability. From initial concept to skid fabrication, our team delivers proven equipment solutions that meet the specific needs of FPSO operations.
