Amo Statement on House Republicans Voting to Continue the Trump DHS Shutdown

Washington, DC - Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) issued the following statement on House Republicans' failure to pay TSA agents, end the chaos at our airports, and reopen the Department of Homeland Security:

"Tonight, House Republicans showed what they prioritize: the chaos and tyranny of ICE on our streets and continued airport woes over paying hardworking federal employees at TSA, FEMA, the Coast Guard, and the rest of the Department of Homeland Security.

Rather than move forward with the Senate's bipartisan compromise to fund most of DHS, MAGA Mike Johnson and hard-right Republicans prefer to use your taxpayer dollars to extend the government shutdown at the behest of Donald Trump.

Trump and Republicans chose to cause more pain for federal workers' families and travelers so ICE and Border Patrol can keep terrorizing communities, all while failing to address the high prices at the grocery store, doctor's office, and gas pump they've inflicted on Rhode Islanders.

It's time for House Republicans to step up, reopen the government, and end Trump's chaos now."
