Dentons Cardenas & Cardenas advised Regasificadora del Pacifico S.A.S. on the structuring and negotiation of contracts to secure an FSU for receiving liquefied natural gas in the Buenaventura Bay, as well as on the agreement for the design and construction of a regasification plant in Buga.
The FSU agreement was entered into with an affiliate of Exmar N.V. (a company listed on Euronext Brussels), well known for its extensive experience in maritime solutions for the operation, transport, and processing of gas. Meanwhile, the contract for the plant design and construction was signed with an affiliate of CIMC Enric (parent company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange), a Chinese company with a strong track record in the energy industry and the manufacture of cryogenic equipment.
Both transactions are highly significant, as they address one of Colombia's most pressing energy challenges: ensuring a stable and sustainable gas supply in light of fluctuating local production and growing demand. Thanks to its regasification capacity, the facility is not only unique in Colombia but also one of the few of its kind worldwide.
We commend the excellent work of Regasificadora del Pacifico's team and all other advisors involved, who successfully closed both contracts within a demanding timeline, with the goal of bringing the project into operation in the second half of 2026.
The Dentons Cardenas & Cardenas team included: (i) Pablo Jaramillo, partner; (ii) Daniela Mejia, partner; (iii) Rodrigo De Vivero, associate and (iv) Gabriela Sánchez, associate.
