Advisory Opinions

Request received

Advisory Opinion Request 2024-15 (Unified Libertarians of Massachusetts). On October 17, 2024, the Commission made public an advisory opinion request from the Unified Libertarians of Massachusetts. The Unified Libertarians of Massachusetts ask to be recognized as a state committee of a national political party: the Libertarian National Party. The Commission will accept written comments on the request during the 10-day period following publication of the request (no later than October 28) and must issue a response no later than 60 days after the receipt of the complete request, that is, by Dec. 16, 2024.

Litigation

End Citizens United PAC v. FEC (Case No. 22-5277) On October 15, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit issued an Order that Appellant End Citizens United PAC's Petition for Rehearing En Banc be granted and that the Appeals Court's Judgment of January 19, 2024 be vacated.

Campaign Legal Center v. FEC (Case No. 22-5339) On October 15, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit issued an Order that the case be held in abeyance in consideration of the court's granting of a rehearing en banc in End Citizens United PAC v. FEC (Case No. 22-5277).

DCCC v. FEC (Case No. 24-2935) On October 17, Plaintiff filed a Complaint for Declaratory Judgment and Injunctive Relief in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, alleging that the Commission's failure to render an advisory opinion in response to Advisory Opinion Request 2024-13 (DSCC, Montanans for Tester, and Gallego for Arizona) violated the Administrative Procedure Act.

Election Dates. The Commission has posted 2024 Presidential and Congressional Primary Dates, which are subject to change.

Contribution Limits. In addition to the current limits, the Commission has posted an archive of contribution limits that were in effect going back to the 1975-1976 election cycles.

Federal Elections 2020: Election Results for the U.S. President, the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives is available. The data was compiled from the official vote totals published by state election offices.

This publication identifies the federal and state agencies responsible for the disclosure of campaign finances, lobbying, personal finances, public financing, candidates on the ballot, election results, spending on state initiatives and other financial filings.

The Presidential Election Campaign Fund Tax Checkoff Chart provides information on balance of the Fund, monthly deposits into the Fund reported by the Department of the Treasury, payments from the Fund as certified by the FEC, and participation rates of taxpayers as reported by the Internal Revenue Service. Other election-related resources

Videos on protecting U.S. elections. The FBI's Protected Voices initiative provides videos designed to help political campaigns protect themselves from foreign influence. The 2019 videos offer guidance on ransomware, business email compromise, supply chain, social media literacy, and foreign influence operations. Other videos, released in 2018, include cyber hygiene topics such as social engineering, patching, router hardening, and app and browser safety.
