Education Commissioner, Lottery Secretary Visit Miami High Schools to Promote Bright Futures Scholarship Program

Tallahassee, Fla., September 17, 2025 - This week, Florida Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas and Florida Lottery Secretary John F. Davis shared information about the Bright Futures Scholarship Program - Florida's premier financial aid program that recognizes and rewards academic excellence - to more than 2,000 students at six high schools in Miami-Dade County.

"Bright Futures expands postsecondary opportunities for Florida's hard-working students," said Commissioner Kamoutsas. "By engaging directly with students in their schools, we're not just sharing information about Bright Futures - we're empowering students to see a future where their academic efforts lead to achievable success in college or technical training."

"Visiting students in their schools gives us the opportunity to meet them where they are, answer their questions and encourage them to see Bright Futures as a real and attainable pathway to success," said Florida Lottery Secretary John F. Davis. "It's inspiring to remind students that their hard work today can open the door to the future they've always dreamed of."

Commissioner Kamoutsas and Secretary Davis visited Dr. Michael M. Krop High School, Miami Norland Senior High School, North Miami Beach Senior High School, Miami Northwestern Senior High School, Miami Central Senior High School and Miami Carol City Senior High School. Students learned about the eligibility requirements, scholarship tiers and the array of postsecondary programs for which the Bright Futures Scholarship can be applied.

The Florida Bright Futures Program was established in 1997 and is fully funded by the Florida Lottery to reward Florida's brightest high school students for their academic achievements. Since its introduction, the Florida Bright Futures Program has granted over 1 million scholarship awards.

The Florida Bright Futures Program offers four scholarships: the Florida Academic Scholarship, Florida Medallion Scholarship, Florida Gold Seal CAPE Scholarship and the Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship. Current seniors and students seeking state financial aid for the 2026-27 academic year must submit their application by August 31, 2026.
