TITANS Unit detectives Thursday arrested 16-year-old Jaylen Fitzgerald who was wanted for the December 2 shooting of a 62-year-old man who had purchased candy from him outside the Monroe Street Kroger. Fitzgerald asked the man for a ride home due to the cold weather and the victim agreed. The victim stopped in the 900 block of 26th Avenue North to let Fitzgerald out when he produced a handgun and demanded the victim's cash and medication. The victim attempted to push the teen out of the vehicle and was shot in the abdomen.
Investigation by Non-Lethal Shooting detectives resulted in the identification of Fitzgerald as the shooter. He was located today on Jefferson Street and a nine-millimeter pistol was recovered from his person. He is charged in Juvenile Court with especially aggravated robbery.
