Phoenix, Arizona-The Arizona Corporation Commission recognizes its General Counsel, Thomas Van Flein, for being selected as the 2026 President of the National Conference of Regulatory Attorneys ("NCRA"). This conference is organized by the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners ("NARUC") and the NARUC Subcommittee on Law in coordination with the NARUC Staff Subcommittee on Administrative Law Judges ("ALJs"). As a key part of this appointment, the Arizona Corporation Commission will serve as the location host for the NCRA conference in Phoenix, Arizona from May 3-6, 2026.
"Congratulations to Tom and the entire Office of General Counsel for this great honor," said Chair Kevin Thompson. "This is another reflection of this Commission continuing to serve as a national leader in utility regulation and an indicator that the agency continues to move in the right direction. We look forward to hosting this important conference in Phoenix next year and the opportunity for the Commission and our General Counsel to showcase why Arizona is doing things right."
The conference typically hosts between 150 and 200 regulatory attorneys and ALJ's from across the country, and the conference will present multiple panels addressing regulatory issues involving energy production, distribution, and transmission. As part of the conference, continuing legal education seminars will be presented as well as panels on current political and economic issues impacting the regulatory environment.
Mr. Van Flein is a graduate of the University of Arizona College of Law and is the Commission's General Counsel and has served as head of the Office of General Counsel since March 2024.
