LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON HOUSE VOTE REBUKING DONALD TRUMP’S RECKLESS TARIFFS

Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement:

Donald Trump promised to lower the high cost of living on day one. Instead, his reckless tariffs are causing prices to skyrocket and creating unnecessary uncertainty for American families. In my congressional district alone, families could pay an additional $1,900 on average as a result of the destructive Trump tariffs, which raise the cost of everything from groceries to goods to transportation.

For months, sycophantic Republicans in the House have tried to block us from acting on behalf of the American people. Today, House Democrats forced a successful vote to detonate the Trump tariffs on Canada. Democrats are committed to lowering the sky-high cost of living in this country. We are in this fight until we win this fight.
