Amo Slams Republican Scheme to Fund Trump’s Masked ICE Agents While Families Face Rising Costs

Washington, DC - TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI-01), Member of the House Budget Committee, blasted House Republicans for dumping nearly $70 billion more into Trump's deportation machine while doing nothing to lower costs crushing American families.

"Budgets are a statement of values, and House Republicans have made theirs crystal clear.

They already handed Trump's immigration machine a massive windfall in their Big, Ugly Law. Now they've doubled down, giving another $70 billion of your money to expand Trump's ICE force and bankroll more abuses of power.

If you're struggling to afford your groceries, gas, health care, or child care, Republicans have nothing for you. But they can always find billions for Trump.

Republicans' latest betrayal isn't about security, it's about cruelty, corruption, and misplaced priorities. It doesn't make people more secure, lower costs, or stop his slush fund for allies and criminals.

The American people deserve a government that works for them, not another blank check for Trump's chaos. I voted NO."

Background

Congressman Amo, a Member of the House Budget Committee, introduced 2 amendments to stop some of the worst Republican excesses of S. 2, the Secure America Act.

Amendment 159 would redirect the nearly $70 billion Republicans earmarked for Trump's deportation machine to the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), to stop Trump and Republicans from shutting off Rhode Islanders' air conditioning and heat.

Amendment 156 would prevent DHS from carrying out Executive Order 14399 and from using Federal funds to strip Americans of the right to vote.

Republicans rejected both of Congressman Amo's commonsense amendments.
