Bracing for the Major Flood Period, the World's Largest Clean Energy Corridor Fr...

At 14:00 on June 17, 2026, the four cascade reservoirs in the lower Jinsha River-Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, and Xiangjiaba-were lowered to their flood control limit levels as per the dispatching instructions. This milestone marks the full completion of the annual drawdown for the world's largest clean energy corridor. With a total of approximately 35.8 billion m3 of flood control capacity now reserved, this vast energy corridor has laid a solid foundation for the main stem of the Yangtze River to brace for the peak flood season.

The drawdown for the cascade reservoirs in the lower reaches of the Jinsha River officially commenced on January 1, 2026, lasting 168 days, with a cumulative drawdown water volume of 15.20 billion m3, completing the drawdown two weeks ahead of the regulatory requirements. Before this, the water level of the Three Gorges Reservoir has been drawn down to 147.78 m at 21:00 on June 7, completing the pre-flood season drawdown task three days ahead of the regulatory requirements. Since April, CYPC has worked under the strategic guidance of the CTG Flood Control Headquarters, with meticulous instruction and strong support from the Changjiang Water Resources Commission, the State Grid, and the China Southern Power Grid. Braving challenges such as historically high water storage in cascade reservoirs, concentrated maintenance tasks, and significantly above-average seasonal inflows, the Company collaborated with professional institutions-including the National Climate Center and the Yangtze River Basin Meteorological Center-to hold 10 flood forecasting consultations. Through these real-time situational assessments of the flood situation, CYPC spared no effort in completing the drawdown of the cascade reservoirs on the main stem of the Yangtze River.

To ensure a safe and stable energy supply during the peak flood season, the 2025-2026 annual maintenance of the world's largest clean energy corridor was successfully concluded on June 5. A total of 110 maintenance tasks were completed safely, with high quality, and on schedule. With the high-quality maintenance rate remaining at 100% for four consecutive years, the generating units are now operating at optimal conditions. They are fully prepared to meet demand in the peak summer consumption period and guarantee reliable power generation at critical moments.

As the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River enter the plum rain season, CYPC is fully implementing the important directives of General Secretary XI Jinping on flood prevention and drought relief. Adhering to the principle of putting people and their lives first, the Company regards ensuring flood control safety in the Yangtze River Basin as its paramount responsibility. Pursuing perfection, CYPC is committed to exercising meticulous stewardship over the cascade reservoir system on the main stem of the Yangtze River, with the Three Gorges Project at its core, and is going all out to brace for the peak flood season.
