Water Street and North 31st Street will close near Camp Creek starting Monday, Oct. 19, as the City of Colorado Springs begins replacing the Water Street bridge.
Water Street will close at the bridge, and North 31st Street will close at Water Street. Both closures will remain in place through April 2027, when construction is expected to be complete. Drivers will not be able to travel through the work area, but access to nearby properties will remain open on both sides of the bridge.
Drivers should use the following detours:
Pedestrians should follow the signed detours and temporary crossings on Water Street. People walking between the east and west sides of North 31st Street should use the existing pedestrian bridge and street crossing near Howbert Elementary School.
Drivers and pedestrians should allow extra travel time, especially during school arrival and dismissal, and use caution near the work area. A detour map and full directions are available at ColoradoSprings.gov/31stProjects.
The City is replacing the aging Water Street bridge over Camp Creek because of problems with its structure. The new bridge will improve how water flows through the area. Crews will also improve nearby roads, drainage, utilities, sidewalks, curb ramps and crosswalks.
Crews plan to work Monday through Friday, with some Saturday work. The road closures will remain in place even when crews are not working. Weather, utility work and conditions at the site may change the schedule.
