Senator Marshall: We Need to Stand Up and Fight for Election Integrity

Senator Marshall Joins The Big Weekend Show on Fox News

Washington - U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas), joined The Big Weekend Show on Fox News to discuss the ongoing DHS shutdown, exposing Democrats' unwillingness to negotiate and advocating for full funding of the agency. He also expressed his support for the SAVE America Act and exploring all possible avenues to pass the legislation, including ending the filibuster.

On funding DHS and TSA:

"Well, Tami, it sure doesn't look like it. Remember, the Democrats took 18 days to respond to President Trump's offer; it took them 30 days to come to the table at all since they defunded DHS. We started some negotiations on Thursday, and then they canceled Saturday's negotiations already. So you listen to what they're saying, they're talking to you that they want to unmask the ICE agents, that they want to do change the warrant system, but what they're really after here I think, is they want to take those 20 million illegal aliens that are here in the country right now and give them amnesty, take the 50 million non citizens in this country and somehow give them voting rights. That's really what they're after, and we need to stand up and fight them."

On only funding part of DHS:

"Well, Joey, I wake up every morning and think about the safety and security of your family. And I would just ask everyone to remember back to the ashes of 9/11 - DHS was formed. We took 22 agencies that weren't talking to each other and formed them into one, if those agencies had been talking to each other, I don't think 9/11 would have happened. So I think to keep your family safe and secure, the best way to do this is to fund all of DHS. And if we have to go to reconciliation, then we need to do that, that's the route that I would prefer to go as opposed to caving to the Democrats."

On passing the SAVE Act:

"Well, look, obviously I support the SAVE Act, and I would even nuke the filibuster in order to pass the SAVE Act. I want to point out that the Democrats did not allow us even to vote for just voter ID by itself. And that's really what they're hiding behind, is that they don't want voter ID, they want to take these 50 million non-citizens in America again, give them voting rights, and influence the elections in that way. So the debate continues, we'll continue the fight, but just to be really frank, we don't have 50 Republican senators who agree with me that we need to nuke the filibuster. And I certainly understand where they're coming from, the filibuster protects you when you're in the minority, and it certainly protects us small states that only have three or four congressmembers in our case."

On using the talking filibuster:

"Kaylee, unfortunately, there's not. And again, I respect where they're coming from, that they think that even nuking that part of it would jeopardize the future of the Senate as well. And by the way, as we go through that process, the Democrats could draw this out for months and years. They could offer amendment after amendment, putting poison pills in that bill as well. I'm afraid I don't see a path to victory to doing that right now. I think we should back off and make them vote on voter ID by itself, and make them just show exactly where they are on that particular issue."
