Nepal Participates in Commemorative High-Level Meeting Marking 65th Anniversary of the First NAM Conference in Belgrade

Mr Krishna Prasad Dhakal, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the leader of Nepali delegation, addressed the Commemorative High-Level Meeting to mark the 65th Anniversary of the First Conference of the Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned countries in Belgrade today.

In his address, Mr Dhakal highlighted the importance of the Non-Aligned Movement as a vital compass in navigating a world that is getting more complex and facing multiple crises.

The Joint Secretary also said that as the world is once again witnessing an increasing number of conflicts and tensions as well aspolarization and fragmentation, the NAM needs to be renewed and revitalized.

He further emphasized that Nepal continues to regard the movement as an important platform for addressing global challenges, including arms race, economic disparities, and digital divides, among others.

The Joint Secretary called upon the member states to unite in the principles of NAM and take concrete and concerted actions to strengthen multilateralism and reinforce the international rule of lawto build a more equitable, sustainable and peaceful planet.

The meeting brought together heads of state and government, foreign ministers, and high representatives from NAM member states to reflect on the movement's history and strategize on its role in contemporary global governance.

During the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia His Excellency Mr Marko Djuric, extended his profound condolences to the Government and people of Nepal following the recent tragic floods. He offered his deepest sympathies to the bereaved families and expressed solidarity with all those affected by the disaster.

On the sidelines of the event, Mr Dhakal held meeting with His Excellency Mr Téte António, Minster of External Relations of the Republic of Angola and discussed matters of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

Likewise, Mr Dhakal met His Excellency Eng. Waleed A. M. Elkhereiji, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and discussed matters of mutual interests.

Mr Dhakal also held meeting with Mr Andrej Cvijanović, International Affairs Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia and exchanged views on further strengthening Nepal-Serbia cooperation, particularly, in the field of Agriculture and Forestry.

The Joint Secretary attended the Official Dinner hosted by the President of the Republic of Serbia H. E. Mr Aleksandar Vučić in honor of the visiting head of delegationyesterday.
