Linn County Public Health Launches New Air Monitoring Site

LINN COUNTY, Iowa - Linn County Public Health (LCPH) is expanding its ability to monitor air pollution in Linn County. On October 23, 2025, LCPH employees began data collection at a new air monitoring site, located at 530 Cobban Ct. SE in Cedar Rapids.

The new site joins two others operated by LCPH-one on the northwest side of Cedar Rapids and one in Coggon. These locations continuously measure pollutants in our environment and help us determine if our air is healthy to breathe.

The new air monitoring site will also be an expansion of LCPH's educational outreach. As the new site is located adjacent to the campus of McKinley STEAM Academy, our Air Quality team plans to partner with the Cedar Rapids Community School District (CRCSD) to provide learning opportunities to students. Kids will be able to see firsthand how science can impact and improve the world around them.

Members of LCPH's Air Quality team are offering members of the media a tour of the new site at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 20. Interview availability to follow. Please RSVP to Mollie Swayne at [email protected].
