Dear Inquirer Guild Members:
While a certain election consumed the country this week, another one quietly happened that will impact your Inquirer life.
The following people were elected to serve on the Guild executive board, in most cases reelected and in one case a brand new member, which I'm thrilled about.
They are:
President: Diane Mastrull
Vice Presidents: Melanie Burney and Michaelle Bond
Treasurer: Donna Stokes
Secretary: Torin Sweeney (OUR NEW OFFICER!)
Inquirer Unit Chair: Patricia Madej
Inquirer Unit Vice Chair: Teresa Clinton
It all happened without you having to go to the polls, as each nominee faced no competition.
We're going to take that as a sign that you have complete faith in this team.
I know I do.
We have big work ahead. It is never too soon to begin preparing for the next contract. And we once again face talk of possible buyouts with uncertainty over whether they will be accompanied by the threat of layoffs, all while trying to produce journalism and sell advertising that readers and the business community turn to us for.
As I weepily said in our General Membership meeting last week, it is truly an honor to represent all of you and fight for the compensation, respect and working conditions you deserve. Thank you once again for your trust. This team and the rest of the executive board does not take this responsibility lightly.
If this week and that other election has been especially difficult for you, please be gentle with yourself. Take time to disconnect, take a walk, take deep breaths, have some ice cream and know you're not alone. We're in this together.
In solidarity,
Diane
