Project Update: Wildfire Fuels Reduction Work in Montara and Moss Beach

Published: Jun 11, 2026

Project will continue through July 15, 2026

San Mateo County ― Caltrans has begun fuel reduction work to mitigate wildfire risk along a Caltrans-owned parcel known as the "Devil's Slide Bypass" or the "Martini Creek Bypass" area in Montara and Moss Beach. Crews are removing vegetation, including trees, bark, limbs and other debris, to create defensible space between private property lines and state Right-of-Way, as recommended by CAL FIRE.

All work will take place on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. Neighbors should expect daytime noise from equipment such as wood chippers and excavators. Work is scheduled to be completed by July 15, 2026.

Project Schedule (subject to change at short notice depending on workload)

  • June 11-17 - Cedar, north and south of Linda Vista
  • June 18-30 - East of Date between Hart & George
  • July 2-15 - Near Sunshine Valley south of Hart
