Trevor Gillespie receives Clery Compliance Officer of the Year award

Trevor Gillespie, assistant director of Clery Compliance, student conduct administrator and Maxient specialist, received the Clery Compliance Officer of the Year award earlier this month at the annual National Association of Clery Compliance Officers and Professionals (NACCOP) conference in Baltimore, Maryland. The award aims to recognize those who have "contributed significantly to the development or refinement of a Clery compliance program" at their university. The Clery Act is a federal law that requires colleges and universities to disclose crime statistics for their campuses and surrounding areas.

Gillepsie joined UAA's Dean of Students Office in 2020 after working as a residence coordinator for UAA Residence Life. Once in his new role, Gillespie set to work reviewing three years' worth of crime reports to assure the statistics were correctly classified and developed a live, in-house training program for campus security authorities (CSAs), all while the pandemic was ongoing. Gillespie also developed maps for each of UAA's 12 separate campuses and served as lead member of UAA's Clery Compliance Team.

Gillespie worked to make UAA's annual Campus Security and Fire Safety Report more accessible to a wider array of readers. The report was traditionally available only as a lengthy PDF document, but Gillespie developed a web page to display as an easily navigable format. He presented on "Where Accessibility Meets Clery Compliance" at the 2023 NACCOP conference.
