On 21 September, the chargé d'affaires ad interim of the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Lithuania was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and issued a strong protest regarding the violation of the airspace of the Republic of Estonia by the fighter jets of the Russian Air Force on 19 September, as well as dangerous flights over an oil platform located in the Baltic Sea in the exclusive economic zone of Poland on the same day.
The Russian representative was told that Lithuania considers these incidents to be serious violations of international law, through which Russia is escalating tensions in the Baltic Sea region.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania demanded that the Russian Federation take all necessary measures to prevent such provocations from happening again in the future.
Today, the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also summoned a representative of the Russian Embassy. This is a coordinated step by the Baltic states, demonstrating support of Estonia.
