UPDATE: Man Dies Following Shooting in Hazelwood Neighborhood

The victim of a shooting in the Hazelwood Neighborhood on March 9, 2026, has died.

The individual is identified as Nicholas A. Teegarden, 40, of Portland. Teegarden died on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. Teegarden's family has been notified of his death. They are requesting privacy at this time, but they did provide a photo for public release.

The Medical Examiner determined Teegarden died of homicide by gunshot wound.

Homicide Detectives Respond to Shooting in the Hazelwood Neighborhood

Officers arrived at 1:40 a.m. and located an adult male who appeared to have a gunshot wound. Portland Fire and AMR responded to assist.

The injured man was transported to the hospital by ambulance with life-threatening injuries.

Due to the seriousness of the injuries, Portland Police Homicide Unit detectives responded to investigate. East Burnside Street is closed between Northeast 146th Avenue and Northeast 151st Avenue, and Northeast 148th Avenue is closed southbound to Southeast Stark Street and northbound to Northeast Couch Street. The road closures and max line closures will remain in place until the investigation is completed. More information will be released when appropriate.
