Gov. Braun Praises Power Up Companies Advancing Safety and Workforce Development During Construction Safety Week

INDIANAPOLIS - During Construction Safety Week, Governor Mike Braun is recognizing Indiana construction and materials companies that are making jobsites safer and strengthening workforce readiness through intentional, large-scale upskilling efforts.

Across the state, these employers are investing in training their workforce - deploying digital learning systems, expanding apprenticeships and building structured career growth pathways that improve safety outcomes while preparing workers for long-term success in high-demand roles.

"Construction safety and workforce development go hand in hand," said Gov. Braun. "When Indiana companies invest in upskilling their workforce, they improve safety on the job, strengthen their teams and build a stronger economy for our state."

Power Up Indiana supports this work by enabling employers to design and deliver training that leads to measurable wage growth and advancement, reinforcing the connection between skills, safety and career mobility.

Heritage Construction + Materials, part of The Heritage Group, integrates upskilling into its workforce strategy. The company provides employees with access to Workday's learning platform and LinkedIn Learning, offering thousands of courses that build both technical expertise and professional capability. Heritage also reinforces safe work practices tied directly to job responsibilities, ensuring training translates to performance on the jobsite.

At ERMCO, leaders build a long-term talent pipeline through apprenticeships with IBEW Local 481, along with internships and structured career pathways. The company prepares workers for large-scale projects by pairing hands-on experience with mentorship, supporting advancement into higher-skilled roles while maintaining a strong focus on jobsite protection and quality.

Shiel Sexton has developed a comprehensive training system that includes onboarding tracks, leadership development, safety instruction and a robust catalog of digital courses through its learning management system. Through mentorship programs and "Power Skills" workshops, the company equips employees with the technical decision-making skills needed to advance while maintaining high safety standards across projects.

Together, these companies demonstrate how Indiana's construction and infrastructure industries are pairing safety training with upskilling to keep workers safe and prepare more Hoosiers for long-term success in skilled trades and construction.
