Clear Creek County - The I-70 Floyd Hill Project will require overnight closures of Interstate 70 as major progress continues on the construction of "The Live Lift," the westbound I-70 concrete cast-in-place segmental bridge. Crews will grout the tendons - a protective seal to the bridge, providing a longer lifespan and smoother ride for motorists upon completion - on the concrete cast-in-place segmental bridge over westbound I-70 near US Highway 6. Crews will also shift eastbound I-70 traffic in a new alignment to open up new areas for construction between the Veterans Memorial Tunnels and Hidden Valley/Central City Parkway (Exit 243).
This work will require an overnight closure of eastbound I-70 between eastern Idaho Springs (Exit 241) and Hidden Valley/Central City Parkway (Exit 243), and two overnight closures of westbound I-70 at US 6 (Exit 244). Motorists can stay informed on the upcoming closures by signing up for text alerts by texting floydhill (one word) to 21000.
Motorists can expect an overnight closure of eastbound I-70 between Idaho Springs (Exit 241) and Hidden Valley/Central City Parkway (Exit 243) for crews to safely shift eastbound I-70 traffic to the north onto the newly completed bridge over Clear Creek. This work will also require a four-day closure of the eastbound I-70 off-ramp to Hidden Valley (Exit 243) for crews to safely tie in the off-ramp to the new alignment. The closure will occur 9 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 18, to 5 a.m., Monday, Oct. 19.
Detour: Eastbound I-70 motorists will merge into one lane and use the eastbound I-70 off-ramp to Idaho Springs (Exit 241), and then travel east on County Road 314 to access eastbound I-70 at Hidden Valley (Exit 243).

All work is weather-dependent and subject to change. If weather or unforeseen circumstances impact this work, crews will shift the closure schedule, and the eastbound I-70 closure could occur from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 25, and the extended ramp closure would occur from 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, through 6 a.m., Friday, Oct. 30.
Motorists can expect two, overnight full closures of westbound I-70 at US 6 (Exit 244) for crews to grout the tendons on the segmental bridge. The closures are scheduled for 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday, Oct. 19, and Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Detour: Westbound I-70 motorists will merge into one lane and use the US 6 (Exit 244) off- and on-ramps to continue on westbound I-70.

Following this work, crews will continue pouring concrete to build the segmental bridge outward over I-70, and will begin bridge construction on the existing eastbound and westbound I-70 lanes, west of Hidden Valley/Central City Parkway (Exit 243).
In mid-November through mid-December, motorists can expect overnight, eastbound and westbound I-70 closures for segmental bridge construction. Stay tuned to our Project updates for more information.
The I-70 Floyd Hill Project will improve eight miles of the I-70 mountain corridor, from west of Evergreen to eastern Idaho Springs. The Project will deliver a third westbound I-70 travel lane, which will function as an Express Lane, to improve the current two-lane bottleneck. Other major elements include constructing a missing two-mile section of the frontage road between Evergreen and Idaho Springs, building an eastbound I-70 extended on-ramp for slow-moving vehicles, improving traffic flow and access at interchanges and intersections within the project limits, improving sight distance on roadway curves, improving the Clear Creek Greenway trail, and creating safer wildlife movements.
Construction began in July 2023. I-70 will be in its new alignment in 2028, with the entire project expected to conclude in 2029.
