Peoria Man Sentenced for Facebook Marketplace Robbery

January 9, 2026, Peoria, IL - Tobias W. Taylor, 25, was sentenced to 12 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on December 22, 2025, after pleading guilty to Aggravated Robbery for stealing four pairs of shoes at gunpoint during a Facebook Marketplace sale.

Around 6 pm on October 26, 2024, police responded to the Knollridge Apartment Complex in North Peoria on a report of an armed robbery. The victim told police he had arranged the sale of some shoes he had listed on Facebook Marketplace. At the scheduled meet-up, the victim was met by two males. One male demanded that the victim hand over the shoes, or else his friend would shoot him, and that is when the second male brandished a handgun. The victim handed over the shoes, and the suspects fled.

During the investigation, police developed Taylor as a suspect, and the victim identified him as one of the robbers.

The second man was later identified as Jordan A. Johnson. His case is pending.
