Senator Marshall, Secretary Duffy Highlight Aviation Infrastructure & Modernization in Kansas

Olathe - U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas), today joined U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and Congressman Tracey Mann (KS-01) for visits to Kansas City Downtown Airport (MKC) and Indra Group's radar manufacturing facility in Olathe, Kansas, to highlight aviation safety, air traffic control modernization, and critical transportation infrastructure investments across Kansas and the region.

"Kansas has a proud aviation history, and we need to make sure our infrastructure is keeping up. From modernizing our air traffic control systems to investing in our airports, these improvements are critical to keeping travelers safe, supporting good-paying jobs, and keeping America the gold standard in aviation," said Senator Marshall. "I appreciate Secretary Duffy being here today to discuss how we can strengthen our aviation infrastructure and make sure Kansas remains a key part of America's transportation future."

"Thanks to President Trump, Senator Marshall, and Congressman Mann, the Working Families Tax Cut Act is fueling an $11 million modernization investment right here at MKC and boosting American jobs in the region," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy. "We've made historic progress, but the job's not finished. To finally fix air travel for the American people, we need to pass the Modern Skies Act and I'm relying on our partners in Congress, including Reps. Marshall and Mann to get that done."

At MKC, the group toured the airport's air traffic control tower, originally built in 1942, where $11 million from the Republican passed Working Families Tax Cut Act is funding upgrades to modernize equipment and improve the technology air traffic controllers rely on to safely manage air traffic. The upgrades, scheduled over the next 18 months, include new voice communication systems, high-speed fiber connections to replace outdated copper wiring, a new Surface Awareness Initiative system, and updated controller displays. The new IP voice switches have already been installed.

The group then visited Indra Group's new radar manufacturing facility in Olathe, where the company manufactures next-generation air traffic control technology, including communications and radar systems for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The facility is on track to produce 40% of the radars being installed nationwide, underscoring Kansas' role in strengthening America's aviation infrastructure and supporting domestic manufacturing.

The visits come as Kansas continues to benefit from federal transportation investments in highway improvements, airport infrastructure, freight movement, and other projects that support the state's economy and connect communities across the region.
