The City of Norman and partners across the state are encouraging Oklahomans to shop local and eat local in celebration of Weekend of Local, to be celebrated July 17-19, 2026.

The annual statewide campaign, championed by the Oklahoma Independent Shopkeepers Association, promotes the important role that local shops and restaurants play in making communities great.

"Shopping local is one of the easiest and most impactful ways to support our community," said Scott Martin, President/CEO of the Norman Chamber of Commerce. "When you buy from local shops, artists, and businesses, you're helping create jobs, boost the local economy, and preserve the unique character of Norman. Every purchase makes a difference!"

Local merchants can sign up to be promoted as a participating business through the Norman Chamber of Commerce at Normanchamber.com/weekendoflocal and also sign up to be included on a state directory at https://www.weekendoflocal.com/signup.

Dan Schemm, Executive Director of VisitNorman, shared: "Local businesses shape the spirit of Norman and help create the kind of welcoming, authentic experience that draws visitors in. Choosing to shop local keeps that energy strong and supports the people, makers, and entrepreneurs who bring this city to life."

Shoppers should check with individual shops for hours of operation and specials that may run during Weekend of Local.

"When you shop local, you're not just getting great deals and personalized service, you're also investing directly back into our city," said Sara Kaplan, Chief Business and Community Relations Officer for the City of Norman. "Every purchase generates sales tax that goes towards funding essential services we all rely on, like parks, roads, and public safety."
