The alarm rings before sunrise, and while most of campus are still asleep, University of Evansville (UE) swimmer Hannah Krings is already in the water.

For the junior history secondary education major, early mornings and long practices are only part of the story. Outside the pool, she's also making waves as president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), where she represents the voice of more than 250 UE student-athletes.

Krings' leadership doesn't stop on campus. As a Missouri Valley Conference representative and co-chair, she's helping shape student-athlete policies and initiatives across the league. She also meets monthly with UE's Director of Athletics to ensure that student voices are heard in decision-making.

"Every time I hit the pool, I'm representing UE, not just as a swimmer, but as a teammate, leader, and student," Krings said. "That means showing up for people, being kind, having good sportsmanship, and putting in the work."

Her teammates have noticed. As a captain, Krings has been a source of encouragement during grueling training weeks and a steady presence in competition. One of her favorite memories is the midseason A3 Invitational at Southern Illinois University, where three days of racing became a defining moment of team unity.

Beyond athletics, Krings serves as an Education Ambassador and leans on careful organization to balance practices, classes, and leadership duties. "Training takes up a large majority of my week, and I plan my classes and meetings around practices," she said. "My planner is my lifeline."

For Krings, the support of her longtime coach and her parents fuels her drive to keep pushing forward. And as she looks ahead, she hopes to bring her passion for teaching, teamwork, and leadership into her future career.

"I've learned that leadership is about service - lifting up the people around you," she said. "That's something I'll carry with me long after I leave UE."

Looking ahead, Krings hopes to carry her passion for teaching and leadership into her future career while continuing to build meaningful connections with her peers on campus.
