Panopto expands video accessibility capabilities to help higher education institutions navigate evolving requirements

Enhanced AI captioning, streamlined accessibility workflows, and improved reporting help institutions deliver accessible learning experiences at scale.

PITTSBURGH, PA - October 23, 2026 - Panopto, the global leader in AI-powered video knowledge management, highlighted a series of platform enhancements that help higher education institutions improve video accessibility, simplify content management, and navigate evolving regulatory requirements.

As higher education institutions work to make learning more accessible, evolving regulatory requirements are bringing renewed attention to digital accessibility. In the United States, revised Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title II deadlines give public colleges and universities additional time to prepare, but the challenge remains significant. Institutions managing thousands of recorded lectures, presentations, and other learning resources need practical tools and sustainable workflows to improve accessibility at scale.

Panopto's recent investments address these challenges by improving AI-generated captions, expanding accessibility service integrations, automating workflows, and centralizing reporting. Together, these capabilities help institutions manage accessibility across growing video libraries while reducing the administrative burden on faculty and support teams.

"Accessibility has always been central to how we think about video learning, but we also recognize that the expectations placed on institutions continue to evolve," said Simona Fallavollita, Senior Director of Product Management at Panopto. "Our customers are navigating complex requirements while working to make learning accessible to every student. We see these product investments as an extension of our partnership with them: giving institutions practical tools to manage accessibility at scale, adapt to changing requirements, and stay focused on what matters most: supporting student success."

New capabilities support accessible video learning at scale

Recent enhancements to the Panopto platform include:

  • Improved AI-generated captions. An upgrade to Panopto's automatic speech recognition (ASR) engine improves caption accuracy across supported languages, including better recognition of accents and non-native speakers. More accurate transcripts also improve video search and reduce the manual effort of reviewing and correcting captions.
  • Bulk accessibility service requests. Administrators can now request captions, audio descriptions, and other supported accessibility services for multiple videos at once. They can submit requests in the Panopto interface or through automated API workflows. This helps institutions manage accessibility needs across larger content collections.
  • Expanded accessibility service integrations. Enhanced integrations with 3Play Media and Verbit provide additional captioning and audio description options. Institutions can also request supported audio description services using their existing Panopto caption credits, simplifying procurement and service management.
  • Centralized accessibility reporting. New accessibility reports give administrators greater visibility into captioning, audio description, and translation coverage across their video libraries. System- and folder-level reporting helps teams identify content that needs attention and prioritize accessibility work.

These enhancements reflect Panopto's continued investment in making accessibility more integrated and manageable in institutional video operations.

Continuing our commitment to accessible learning

Panopto recently completed a third-party accessibility audit and updated its Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR), using the Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT). The report documents the platform's conformance with WCAG 2.2 Level AA and Section 508 standards. It is available through the Panopto Trust Center.

These investments reflect Panopto's ongoing commitment to helping institutions create more inclusive learning experiences, from the platform's accessibility to the content students rely on every day.
