FREDERICK, Md. - The Frederick County GovernmentBudget Office has been honored as a Top Performer in the 2025 Best in Governance Awards for the Priorities in Action category, presented by Polco. This award recognizes the Budget Office for work on the County's annual budget survey.
"We are committed to engaging with our community so people's voices are heard in the budgeting process," said County Executive Jessica Fitzwater. "I am proud of the work the Budget Office has done to earn this recognition. They work hard every day to ensure Frederick County's budget makes the most of our resources to meet the needs of our community."
The Budget Office uses software, called Balancing Act, to survey people in the community about their top funding priorities for the upcoming fiscal year. The information gathered in the survey helps shape the County budget.
Nearly 2,500 people participated in the most recent budget survey, which was open for approximately three weeks in March 2025. This was an increase of almost 300% compared to the previous year.
The Best in Governance Awards program honors communities for both resident experience and measurable outcomes. These prestigious awards highlight local governments that stand out as the most effective, innovative, and community-centered across the country.
