H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, this afternoon opened the 1st Joint Retreat of the Governance Structures of the AU Peace Fund in Addis Ababa.
The Retreat focused on strengthening strategic coherence and coordination across the governance organs of the AU Peace Fund, reinforcing the confidence of AU Member States and international partners, including the European Union and the United Nations, and advancing sustainable resource mobilization anchored in enhanced African ownership and responsibility for financing the continent's peace and security priorities.
The Chairperson underscored the central role of the AU Peace Fund as a strategic instrument for supporting the African Union's conflict prevention, mediation, peace support operations, and post-conflict reconstruction and development efforts. He further highlighted the importance of the Fund in advancing the operationalization of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), while complementing other financing arrangements, including those envisaged under United Nations Security Council Resolution 2719, on a case-by-case basis, in support of AU-led peace support operations.
