Orange County, FL - Orange County Animal Services (OCAS), a division of the Orange County Government, today announced reduced dog adoption fees starting Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025, through Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025, the day of the seventh annual "Furry Fall Festival.

Adoption fees will be determined by a spin of the spooky "Waggin' Wheel." The standard adoption fee is $80 but by spinning the wheel, the fee will be reduced to either $10, $5, or free. Each dog is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before adoption.

"We hate to see a decline in adoptions, rescue placements, and reclaims for our shelter pets," said Diane Summers, manager for Orange County Animal Services. "While grappling with that challenge, we still have stray pets arriving daily. We need our community's support - we need families to adopt and to foster."

The promotion comes just a week after the shelter announced it was caring for over 230 dogs, urging Orange County and Central Florida residents to consider adoption. Seminole County Animal Services recently announced they were beyond capacity as well.

Recent data revealed the shelter is not experiencing more pet surrenders, but positive pet outcomes such as adoptions, owner reclaims, and rescue placements have declined. The current average length of a pet stay is 24 days compared to 16 days approximately one year ago.

Anyone interested in adopting can check out the dogs available by visiting the OCAS website.
