POMPANO BEACH, FL - Today, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) issued the following statement on the tragic shootings of Minnesota lawmakers and their families.

"I am devastated by the calculated, senseless violence that stole the lives of a Minnesota state representative and her husband and wounded a state senator and his wife. This attack on public servants-and on the sanctity of their own homes-strikes at the very heart of our democracy.

"Words cannot capture the grief their loved ones, constituents, and the entire state of Minnesota are enduring. As lawmakers, we devote our lives to safeguarding our communities-no one should face gunfire for answering that call to serve.

"Those responsible must be brought to justice. We must stand united against hatred, intimidation, and politically motivated violence. My prayers are with the victims, their families, and all Minnesotans as they recover and navigate through this unimaginable tragedy."
