AKRON, OH - Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) hosted a naturalization ceremony at the Akron-Summit County Public Library, where 46 new American citizens from 30 different countries took the Oath of Allegiance and completed their paths to citizenship. Judge John. R. Adams of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio presided over the ceremony and Harry Kamdar, CEO of Asian Services in Action Inc., was the keynote speaker.
"Ohio's 13th District has long been shaped by the contributions of immigrants. Immigrants from all over have helped build the foundation of the district's economy and community. They brought with them the values of resilience, ambition, and dedication that are now integral to the very identity of this region," said Rep. Sykes. "Congratulations to America's newest citizens on this monumental achievement. I wish them the best of luck as they embark on this new journey. I am proud to now call them my fellow citizens, and I look forward to serving everyone in my district in the years ahead."
To become a U.S. citizen, these individuals had to comply with certain requirements including English language proficiency, proof of residency, knowledge of U.S. history, moral character, and other requirements.
