On Wednesday April 1, 2026, at 08:04 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residential break and enter call in the 100 block of Burrin Avenue.
North District General Patrol officers attended the scene and located an unconscious 34-year-old male suspect who had entered into a residence unlawfully with the homeowners present. Officers handcuffed the male for safety reasons in order to safely provide him the first aid he required until Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service personnel arrived. The suspect was transported to hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced deceased.
As this matter is deemed an in-custody death pursuant to The Police Services Act, the Civilian Director of the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) was notified.
