Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach Department of Public Works will host a virtual community meeting to provide information on the 2nd Street Bridge Deck Replacement Project. The meeting will take place on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. via Zoom.
The 2nd Street Bridge, also known as the John H. Davies Bridge, provides a critical connection over Alamitos Bay between Belmont Shore and the City's eastern gateway. Opened in 1959, the bridge is a vital transportation corridor for residents, visitors and businesses traveling between Long Beach, Pacific Coast Highway and regional freeways.
Scheduled to begin construction in fall 2026, the 2nd Street Bridge Deck Replacement Project was initiated following structural assessments that identified the need for repairs to the bridge deck. The project will address long-term maintenance needs while enhancing safety and mobility for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists.
Planned improvements include replacing the bridge's aging concrete deck and upgrading associated infrastructure to extend the life of the bridge and improve safety. The project will also include enhanced lighting and physically separated bicycle and pedestrian facilities to support multimodal travel.
During the virtual informational meeting, Public Works staff will provide an overview of the project background, design progress, anticipated construction schedule and traffic management approach. Community members will have the opportunity to ask questions at the conclusion of the presentation.
Pre-registration is encouraged. Interpretation services are available upon request by Jan. 26, 2026. For more project information, and to register or request interpretation services for the meeting, visit lbcity.info/2ndstreetbridgeproject.
