FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BALTIMORE, MD (Thursday, November 6, 2025) - Tonight, Mayor Brandon M. Scott released the following statement announcing the passing of Anthony Barksdale:

"Tony Barksdale was the epitome of what it means to be a public servant - but more importantly, he was a standard bearer of what it means to be a good man. For three-plus decades, he served his city with one purpose: to make it safer for all Baltimoreans. He never veered from that mission, whether as a patrol officer, Deputy Commissioner, Acting Commissioner, or Deputy Mayor. I had the pleasure of learning at his side for nearly two decades, and I am eternally grateful for all that I learned from him and the brotherly bond we built. My heart goes out to his family and all of us who had the pleasure of working with him. Baltimore is better because a boy from West Baltimore made it his mission to make it safer."
