Update: October 5, 2024 Shooting Investigation: Victim Identified, Charges Upgraded
The Frederick Police Department is providing an update regarding the shooting that occurred on October 5, 2024, at the intersection of North Market Street and East Church Street.
One of the victims, Xavier Jace Smith, later succumbed to his injuries on October 12, 2024. As a result, the charges against Darryll Lee Cooke Jr., 29, of Frederick, MD, have been upgraded to include murder.
Detectives continue to work closely with the Frederick County State's Attorney's Office as the investigation proceeds.
