City celebrates America 250 with time capsule

The City of Broken Arrow celebrates America's 250th birthday on Tuesday, June 30, starting at 6 p.m., with a time capsule installation, a special presentation by the Daughters of the American Revolution, a Grady Nichols concert in the park, and fireworks.

First, at 6 p.m. at Veterans Park, 1111 S. Main St., the Daughters of the American Revolution and city officials will dedicate two park benches at one of the city's most picturesque locations to honor our nation's veterans.

Then, at 6:15 p.m., the City of Broken Arrow will bury a time capsule measuring five feet long, 28 inches wide, and 26 inches tall to preserve memories, milestones, and pieces of today's history for future generations to discover 25 years from now.

"As a city, we are coming together to commemorate the 250th birthday of the United States by taking a snapshot of the City of Broken Arrow and where we stand today," said City Manager Michael Spurgeon. "The time capsule will include photos and videos of the city, letters, and other pertinent memorabilia that highlight the City of Broken Arrow in 2026. We welcome everyone to come out and be part of this historic endeavor."

At 7 p.m., the final Tuesdays in the Park concert of the year will take place across the street at Central Park, 1500 S. Main Street, with Grady Nichols performing with Chris Rodriguez until 9 p.m.

The celebration ends with 250 seconds of fireworks to cap off the night.
