The President of the Personal Data Protection Office, Mirosław Wróblewski, took part in the 6th Data Economy Congress (DEC), where he participated in the panel "AI in the public sector - innovation, services, state".
During this edition of DEC for two days (6-7 October), debates were held, among inter alia, on the transfer of knowledge to the economy, international data spaces in the context of artificial intelligence or on the importance of data in customer relations.
As the President of the Personal Data Protection Office pointed out during the discussion, ensuring the protection of personal data is necessary to build public trust in new technologies, such as artificial intelligence.
On the other hand, with regard to the organisational and legal threats related to the use of artificial intelligence, the President Mirosław Wróblewski pointed out that at the moment everyone is in the process of transformation, because the whole of Europe is actually implementing the AI Act. In addition, as he explained, it is necessary to remember about difficulties, such as the interdependence of the AI Act with other legal acts of the European Union, e.g. eIDAS2 (European Digital Identity Framework).
Among the risks arising from the use of artificial intelligence, the President of the Personal Data Protection Office mentioned the generation of false information by AI models, the manipulation of facts and problems with determining whether the data used by AI is true, which is of great importance for its proper operation.
The President Mirosław Wróblewski also emphasised the importance of the European Data Protection Board in this regard and talked about the role of the Personal Data Protection Office, at which he established a Working Group on Artificial Intelligence this year as part of the functioning Social Team of Experts at the President of the Personal Data Protection Office.
