WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Senator Angela Alsobrooks (D-Md.), member of the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, voted to pass the Renewing Opportunity in the American Dream (ROAD) to Housing Act. She issued the following statement after the vote:
"In a town known for gridlock, the bipartisan passage of the ROAD to Housing Act is proof of our dire housing crisis. Families are being priced out of homeownership, rent is out of control, and the dream of a stable home is slipping away from too many Americans. And when most Americans see homeownership as one of the clearest paths to building wealth, we should be doing everything in our power to make that dream attainable.
"My parents married young - 21 and 22 - and five years later, they bought a modest home. My father was a car salesman. My mother worked as a receptionist. Now, the average age for homeownership is closer to 40. We need to keep fighting for the generations behind us to do better than we did, not worse.
"The ROAD to Housing Act expands the housing supply, reduces red tape, and makes homeownership more affordable. Today, I passed legislation that will help hardworking Maryland families - and that is worth celebrating."
Senator Alsobrooks specifically worked on the following pieces of the package:
