Inaugural Alfred Cup begins Friday, Aug. 29, as Saxon men’s soccer team takes on Alfred State

The Alfred Cup, an annual competition between varsity sports teams from Alfred University and Alfred State College, begins on Friday, August 29, when the Saxons travel to Alfred State for a 7 p.m. men's soccer game.

The Alfred Cup-sponsored by The Power & Construction Group and ServU Federal Credit Union-is an annual competition between Alfred University and Alfred State College athletic teams. A points-based system that awards two points for a win, one for a tie, and no points for a loss will determine the Alfred Cup winner. The competition highlights the unique setting of two NCAA Division III schools located in the small, but fiercely competitive, village of Alfred.

Alfred University Advancement's Alumni Engagement Office will have a "swag tent" set up at each Alfred Cup contest. Alumni are encouraged to visit the tent and register to win an Alumni Swag Bag; registration is limited to one per Alfred Cup competition.

Alfred University faculty and staff are urged to participate in the faculty and staff attendance competition. Simply submit an entry at the Alfred University Swag Tent at each competition, with entries limited to one per competition. Each entry provides participants a chance to win the end-of-season grand prize. Alfred University identification must be shown to enter. The competition is sponsored by Alfred University Athletics and local businesses.

• Women's soccer - Alfred State at Alfred University, Wednesday, Sept. 10, 7:30 p.m., Yunevich Stadium.
• Women's volleyball - Alfred University at Alfred State, Saturday, Oct. 11, 4 p.m., Orvis Gymnasium.
• Football - Alfred University at Alfred State, Saturday, Nov. 8, 1 p.m., Pioneer Stadium.
