NEW SOLDIERS URGED TO PROTECT WOMEN, CHILDREN...
The Minister for Policing and Communications, Hon. Ioane Naivalurua, delivered a powerful call to action today, urging newly graduated soldiers to make the safety of women, children, and communities their highest priority.
Speaking at the 02/25 Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Basic Recruit Course Pass-Out Parade, Minister Naivalurua reminded the graduands that their service extends beyond military duties - it is a commitment to uphold discipline, protect the vulnerable, and stand as guardians of national stability.
He spoke personally of his 32-year journey in the RFMF, noting that the institution shaped his discipline, values, and sense of duty while commending the 97 recruits who completed the rigorous 13-week training, transforming from civilians into soldiers ready to serve with integrity and resolve.
The Minister emphasised the importance of moral strength, accountability, and lifelong learning, highlighting that modern soldiers must think critically, communicate clearly, and uphold ethical standards-both in and out of uniform.
"With the introduction of the Lead Self Course, the RFMF is building adaptable, forward-thinking leaders ready to meet the demands of the modern battlefield," he said.
"Only a few have earned the privilege of wearing the uniform, and you must honour the legacy of those who served before you-from World War II volunteers to fallen heroes like Corporal Sefanaia Sukanaivalu."
"As you begin your careers, you are urged to lead your families well, remain steadfast under pressure, and carry yourselves with loyalty, humility, and unwavering character," he added.
"Your graduation today is not only as a soldier but as a servant to the people and our nation," he said.
