The City and County of Denver, in partnership with The Colorado Health Foundation (CHF) and Gorman & Company, today celebrated the groundbreaking of The Tapestry, a new 72-unit multi-generational affordable housing community located at 1799 Pennsylvania Street in Denver's Uptown neighborhood.
The Tapestry represents a transformative investment in housing, health, and opportunity. The five-story development will provide apartment homes for households earning 30% - 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI), offering a mix of one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom units designed to support long-term multi-generational resident stability.
The ground floor will be anchored by two essential community resources: Mile High Early Learning Center, offering early childhood education, and the Uptown Clinic, which will provide accessible health services to residents and the surrounding neighborhood. Hope Communities, a long-standing Denver nonprofit, will deliver onsite resident services focused on connection, opportunity, and whole-family well-being.
"When we think of affordable housing, we should think of sites like The Tapestry," said Mayor Mike Johnston. "This innovative complex doesn't just meet residents where they're at, it brings the resources right to their doorstep with health care, education, and other services offered on site. This is the type of development we need as we work to make Denver more affordable for all."
The Colorado Health Foundation's leadership and investment, including providing the land, adjacent parking, and project funding, were instrumental in moving the project from concept to reality.
"The Tapestry is what happens when we choose to build not just housing, but possibility. By bringing early learning, health care, and community support under one roof, families will be able to thrive for generations," said Karen McNeil-Miller, President and CEO of The Colorado Health Foundation. "This space will be more than walls and rooms. It will be a resource, a gathering place, a home for many, and most importantly, a reflection of the people who will use it. We are proud to partner in bringing this vision to life, and even prouder of what it will mean for the people who will soon call this place home."
At the groundbreaking event, HOST highlighted the City's investment in the project. Denver has committed a $3.24 million cash flow loan, funded through linkage fees. This investment reflects Denver's ongoing commitment to expanding affordable housing opportunities.
Construction is now underway, with completion expected in late 2027.
