BOISE, ID (April 29, 2026) - During National Volunteer Month, Director Cameron is proud to recognize and celebrate the incredible dedication of Idaho's Senior Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA) volunteers. With compassion, expertise, and an unwavering commitment to service, these volunteers empower Idahoans every day as they navigate complex Medicare decisions.

This past year, 95 SHIBA volunteers served communities across all 44 Idaho counties, ensuring seniors and individuals with disabilities have access to clear, trustworthy, and personalized Medicare guidance. Over the past year alone, SHIBA volunteers donated more than 3,446 hours of one-on-one Medicare counseling, a contribution valued at more than $119,8001.

Director Cameron expressed his gratitude by highlighting the high level of professionalism SHIBA volunteers bring to their work. Each Medicare Counselor completes rigorous training and certification, followed by ongoing education throughout the year to stay current on Medicare rules and updates. Their preparation ensures Idahoans receive accurate information, unbiased support, and the confidence to make informed healthcare choices.

"Volunteers are the heart of our SHIBA program," Director Cameron said. "Their generosity, their time, and their expertise directly strengthen our communities. Because of them, thousands of Idahoans each year are able to understand their Medicare options and gain peace of mind. We are deeply grateful for everything they give."

As National Volunteer Month shines a spotlight on service, Director Cameron would like to thank SHIBA's volunteers for their commitment to improving lives and supporting healthier, more informed communities statewide.
