Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman participated today, 2 April 2026, in a videoconference of representatives from 40 countries, including 25 foreign ministers, which addressed international coordination in the context of security and economic challenges related to navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Grlić Radman stated that Croatia expresses deep concern over the escalation of the conflict and its severe humanitarian consequences for civilian populations in the Middle East region and beyond. The importance of protecting critical civilian infrastructure was emphasized in order to prevent further deterioration of the humanitarian situation. In addition, the minister highlighted that the well-being and safety of seafarers on vessels and oil platforms in the Gulf area are of the highest priority. The current crisis in the Middle East once again underscores the vulnerability of global energy and transport routes, particularly at key strategic points such as the Strait of Hormuz. In this context, Grlić Radman pointed to the geopolitical and operational value of the LNG terminal on Krk and the JANAF pipeline system. These capacities ensure continuity of supply even under conditions of disruption to global routes, thereby further strengthening Europe's energy resilience.
The participants agreed on the importance of mobilizing international diplomatic and economic instruments to ensure the security of navigation and the uninterrupted flow of global trade. All participating states also supported the resolution of the International Maritime Organization, which emphasizes the importance of freedom of navigation and the protection of seafarers. It was stressed that priority should be given to diplomatic and economic solutions that will enable the continued movement of vital goods. It was further underlined that any closure of the Strait of Hormuz would have far-reaching global consequences, making it essential to continue synchronized and coordinated action by the international community.
