As part of the third of four 2026 furlough days, most city of Aurora facilities and operations will be closed Thursday, July 2, with the exception of essential services and emergency operations. For more information on furlough days, visit AuroraGov.org/Furloughs.
Additionally, in observance of Independence Day, some city of Aurora locations and services will be closed or have adjusted hours Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4.
• All municipal offices and courts, closed July 2 and 3
• All libraries, closed July 2 and 4
Aurora Public Library no longer charges late fees on overdue items; no holds expire on closed days.
• Aurora Animal Shelter, closed July 2 and 3; open July 4

• Aurora Center for Active Adults, closed July 2, 3 and 4
• Aurora History Museum, closed July 2; open July 4, 2 to 8 p.m.
• Aurora Reservoir, open July 2, 3 and 4, 5 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; closed July 14

• Bicentennial Art Center, closed July 2, 3 and 4

• Pools (outdoor) and Spraygrounds: Outdoor pools (Aqua Vista, Del Mar Aquatic Center, Meadow Hills, Parklane, Pheasant Run and Village Green) as well as spraygrounds (Great Plains Park and Red-tailed Hawk Park) open July 2; closed July 3 and 4. Notes:
Aurora's 4th of July Spectacular will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 4, on the Great Lawn of the Aurora Municipal Center, 15151 E. Alameda Parkway, with fireworks starting at 9:30 p.m. Visit AuroraGov.org/Events for details on performance lineup, parking, viewing map and more.
On city holidays, payment for parking at on-street parking meters and commuter pay permit zones is not required. All other posted regulatory parking restrictions remain in effect and are enforced.
Not affected by the holiday closures are the Detention Center, Police, Fire Rescue and Aurora911 operations.
