China Southern Airlineshas announced a major expansion of its services from Guangzhou to Brisbane, moving to double daily flights during the peak 2025/26 summer travel season.
The boost marks the highest-ever frequency by the airline since it commenced operations in Brisbane in 2010, a fitting milestone as the partnership celebrates its 15th anniversary.
The enhanced schedule will see services increase progressively from their current 7 flights per week to:
This seasonal uplift, operated by China Southern's Airbus A350 aircraft, will deliver 85 additional services and 53,000 seats between Guangzhou and Brisbane, offering travellers more choice and flexibility during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
Gert-Jan de Graaff, CEO, Brisbane Airport:
"This is like adding an extra Suncorp Stadium's worth of capacity between China and Brisbane over Summer. It's not just a tweak to services; it's a doubling of seasonal capacity and a bold endorsement of Brisbane and Queensland's appeal. After 15 years of partnership, this next chapter delivers more visitors, and more trade, as well as throwing down the gauntlet to its competitors.
"We know visitors arriving are dispersing across Queensland, supporting jobs in our tourism regions, while departing planes are carrying Moreton Bay bugs, avocados, and high-value medical exports that boost our economy."
Passengers will benefit from convenient one-stop connections through Guangzhou to key destinations including Shanghai, Beijing, Qingdao, Xi'an, and Vietnam, while Brisbane's exporters will enjoy improved cargo capacity and scheduling to China - Queensland's largest two-way trade partner.
Regional General Manager Jason Sun, China Southern Airlines:
"China Southern Airlines is pleased to expand our flight services in Brisbane, reaffirming our commitment to strengthening connectivity between Queensland and our global network via our Guangzhou hub. As one of the world's largest airlines, we understand the importance of seamless travel for tourism, trade, and cultural exchange.
"The increased frequencies will offer passengers more flexibility, smoother connections through Guangzhou, and enhanced access to China and beyond. We look forward to welcoming more travelers from Queensland and providing them with our renowned hospitality and industry-leading service."
