On April 27, 2026, Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu attended the Celebration of the 65th Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Sierra Leone held by the Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone, China.
Miao Deyu extended congratulations on Sierra Leone's development achievements over the 65 years since independence. He stated that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of the heads of state of both countries, the China-Sierra Leone comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership has continuously deepened and strengthened, bringing substantial benefits to the peoples of both nations. This year marks the beginning of China's 15th Five-Year Plan period, during which China will focus on promoting high-quality development and remain unwavering in its commitment to expanding high-level opening-up to the outside world. China is willing to work with African countries, including Sierra Leone, to take the opportunity of China's implementation of zero tariffs on all African countries with which it has diplomatic relations starting from May 1, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, promote common development, and make greater contributions to building an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.
Ambassador of Sierra Leone to China Abu Bakarr Karim stated that Sierra Leone and China maintain a strong and enduring partnership, characterized by mutual respect, equality, trust, and mutual benefit. Over the years, bilateral cooperation has yielded fruitful results. Sierra Leone adheres to the one-China principle, attaches great importance to the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with China, and is willing to continuously deepen cooperation in various fields to promote the common development and prosperity of both countries.
