What: The City of San José launched a Business Tax Amnesty Program on Jan. 1, 2026, offering a one-time opportunity for individuals and businesses to resolve outstanding business tax obligations without added penalties or interest.
When: Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2026
Where: Businesses and individuals can learn more about the program or check eligibility by visiting the City's Business Tax webpage at www.sanjoseca.gov/businesstax or calling 408-535-7055, Option 2.
Background: The City of San José Business Tax Amnesty Program provides a cost-saving path for business owners to register their business, pay back taxes and update their employee count, square footage, or rental units. Under the Amnesty Program, individuals and businesses that pay their past-due taxes and applicable fees will benefit from the waiver of all penalties and interest assessed by the City and the Business Improvement Districts.

This program is for individuals and businesses who have one or more of the following:
  • Who have never registered their business with the City.
  • Are behind on paying their business tax.
  • Need to update their business tax information.
